Guelph Renewable Energy Co-operative

GRECo Co-op Update

Dear GRECo Co-op Member or Interested Community Member,

We would like to update you on our recent efforts, and have many successes and a significant disappointment to share.

First, we would like to thank the communities of Guelph and Wellington County for stepping up and supporting our cause, we signed up two groups of 50 landowner required for each municipality!

As a result, we now have five solar project applications submitted to the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) for contracts to generate electricity.

These include:

2 Watson Road, Guelph 250 kW AC
2 Airpark Place, Guelph 100 kW AC
218 Silvercreek Pkwy, Guelph 250 kW AC
5382 Township Road 3, RR# 7, Guelph-Eramosa 100 kW AC
6082 6th Line, RR# 1, Rockwood, 100 kW AC

All told these applications have the potential to bring 800 kW of renewable energy to Guelph and Wellington Counties, and produce enough electricity over a year to power roughly 900 homes!

The OPA has reported that they expect to begin issuing contracts within 120 days. That means we should learn which contracts we have been awarded right around the Victoria Day weekend. From that point, the OPA is expected to give us a year and a half to complete the project.

One major disappointment we must report is that our project with Ignatius Jesuit Centre will not be moving forward. Just days before the deadline we learned that the provincial Jesuit decision making body, who are the actual Ignatius landowners, decided not to sign the lease option agreement that would have permitted us to submit an application to the OPA for this project. Unfortunately we have no other information on why this decision was made. Thankfully, we still have our five other projects that will enable us to bring community based renewable energy to Guelph and Wellington County.

If you are not yet a member, but wish to consider investing in one of our projects, please keep scanning our updates-there will be opportunities to become a member prior to our investment meetings.

Finally, it is important to note that members will be able to invest in any of our projects, regardless of the location of our residence.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us at mark@guelphsolar.ca or phone Mark Bailey at 519-731-1913.

Otherwise, you will hear from us again around the Victoria Day weekend!

Towards a brighter future,

The Guelph Renewable Energy Co-operative Board of Directors.
